I've chosen to paint this canvas in my dining room since it measures 48'x60' and I'd like to see it in its possible destination. I'm liking how the canoe is shaping up and have decided to create a shadow instead of a reflection, which is an interesting challenge since I'm creating sun-dappled ripples in changing shades of blue. My current plan is to begin the water at the bottom of the piece in a deep blue (pthalo mixed with crimson) and work up to titanium white...though I may find that a little bright. I've been mixing in some unbleached titantium and am enjoying the softness of it. In the end, I'd like the water to feel as though it's receding while retaining strongly abstracted form in the water. I haven't decided at this point whether the canoe will be red (again) or a shade of orange. This is always the fun part, selecting colour.
